We are looking for dynamic and a committed Deputy Manager to join an exciting new Young Persons’ service in Hounslow. The main purpose of the role is to provide excellent quality support and interventions to young people experiencing or likely to experience a mental health crisis. The role requires someone who has excellent leadership and communication skills, resilience and passionate about supporting young people. Dealing with challenging behaviours and putting in firm boundaries will be a big part of this role.
Person Specification- Demonstrable experience of supporting people with mental health and complex needs
- The ability to create and deliver activities with clients which help them reduce anxieties, develop their confidence and self-esteem and help them to plan for a self-defined recovery journey.
- Understanding of basic buildings safety issues, and what constitutes a repair.
- Ability to communicate and develop an excellent relationship with stakeholders, service users, colleagues, families, external organisations, neighbours, volunteers and professionals.
- Good knowledge of MS Office systems, able to use computer systems including case management systems.
- The motivation to maintain consistently high delivery standards and service user standards, even when faced with unpredictable behavior and potentially challenging situations.
- Support and encourage the person to make choices and life decisions in line with the Mental Capacity Act requirements.
- Knowledge of wider legislation to support people in a mental health crisis.
- Supporting people to plan and achieve their daily outcomes, especially developing skills and independence.
- To co-ordinate the planning and implementation of day and leisure activities in conjunction with the staff team
- To help train junior members of staff in all aspects of their work.
- Excellent level of spoken and written English
- Ability to complete and record accurate financial transactions.
- Ability to engage clients in assessments and to co-produce, implement, record, review and audit support and safety assessment plans.
- Your hours of work will be 8-4, 9-5 and 10-6, however, there may occasionally be the need to work flexibly, specifically out of hours working during the evening, weekends / bank holidays.
You will assist the Service Manager with the day to day management of the project including staff performance, service user welfare and maintenance of a high standard, respectful environment. You will have experience of staff management including awareness of good practice in staff supervision. You will also have successful experience of working with young people with complex needs including mental health/substance misuse problems and an understanding of their needs.
You will be a skilled, friendly and approachable with a dedicated approach to the work. You will be someone who understands what it involves to become an attachment figure to the young people - someone who understands boundaries but never forgets the need to be emotionally available and understands where the young people are coming from. You will have a good understanding of mental health and of the psychodynamic approach. You will have the resilience, drive and commitment to work with young people, many of whom have experienced significant trauma and exhibit challenging behaviours - you will be able to use de-escalation skills to provide a calm environment.
Additionally, you will have the ability to identify support needs of young people and to inform and implement individually tailored skill plans. You will also have knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding of vulnerable young people and the ability to maintain appropriate recording and filing systems.
Essential
· You must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience within a similar setting.
· At least one year’s supervision experience.
· NVQ level 3 in Social Care or equivalent.
Desirable
· Counselling or Psychology qualification
· Level 3 Diploma in Social Care Leadership/Management or equivalent, as a minimum.
· Excellent knowledge on mental health and the psychodynamic approach
