Health and Safety Policy Statement

Bamboo Recruitment Ltd (trading as Bamboo Childcare) recognises and accepts its legal and moral responsibilities for providing a safe and healthy place of work for all its employees and for protecting the health, safety and welfare whilst at work, of employees and other persons who may be affected by the activities, especially all apprentices/learners and visitors.

We are committed to “best practice” in matters of health and safety and shall endeavour, where possible, to achieve a higher standard than may be required by statutory or contractual requirements.

In relation to apprenticeships the company is committed to providing a learning experience through which learners become risk aware rather than risk averse. We will endeavour to ensure that learning is delivered in a safe, healthy and supportive environment, and that learners develop an awareness of hazards, an understanding of risks and control measures, and a set of safe behaviours and transferable skills.

It is our Policy to:

  • Assess the risks arising from activities and implement suitable precautions and safe systems of work in order to minimise those risks.
  • Assess the health and safety needs of vulnerable individuals and put in place systems to protect vulnerable groups (children, young people, vulnerable adults, pregnant women, individuals with disabilities, lone workers).
  • Provide adequate resources (safe and healthy workplace, safe equipment, personal protective equipment, competent staff and appropriate levels of supervision) to ensure that proper provision can be made for the health and safety of staff, students and visitors.
  • Promote a positive attitude from staff and students towards all matters relating to health, safety and welfare.
  • Make all employees and learners aware of what they must do, or not do, in order to help maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Clearly define the health and safety responsibilities of management and staff, at all levels, and define clear

procedures to enable these responsibilities to be effectively discharged.

  • Provide health and safety information, instruction, training, to staff and students, as appropriate to their

role, learning activity and stage of development.

  • Provide a healthy and supportive working and learning environment, with adequate welfare facilities; and support staff and students in improving their own physical and mental health and welfare.
  • Make provision for dealing with foreseeable emergencies (first aid, fire, weather), including equipment, competent persons and clear procedures.
  • Comply with all statutory and contractual incident and injury reporting requirements.
  • Ensure that suitable insurance is in place to meet our potential liabilities towards employees and others.
  • Treat health and safety considerations as an integral part of the planning, design, building and alteration of premises, and the introduction of new equipment and/or working practices

The statement of general policy on health and safety applies to all premises, activities and persons acting under the direct control of Bamboo Recruitment Ltd.

Where activities take place in a venue which is not under our direct control we will work with the controller of the venue to ensure, so far as practicable, a safe and healthy learning and working environment.

All staff have a legal duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to:

  1. Take reasonable care of their own and other people’s health and safety.
  2. Co-operate with arrangements for health and safety.
  3. Take care of, and not intentionally interfere with or misuse, anything provided in the interests of
    health and safety.
  4. Report to management any defects in the workplace, its equipment or safety arrangements which
create a hazard, as soon as it is safe to do so.
  5. Co-operate in the investigation of accidents and incidents.

The directors of Bamboo Recruitment Ltd are responsible and accountable for ensuring the company complies with its statutory health and safety obligations. The directors will:

  • Ensure that there is an effective and enforceable Health and Safety policy
  • Periodically assess the effectiveness of that policy
  • Monitor the management structure for health and safety
  • Take necessary and appropriate actions to ensure that statutory and contractual provisions are met
    at all times.

staff, students or others are made safe without delay.
  • Encourage staff, students and others to participate in activities to raise standards of health and
    Safety

Managers will be responsible, within their area of control, for:

  • Ensuring staff and student awareness of and compliance with the requirements of the health and
    safety policy
  • Ensuring that safe working practices are developed and implemented
  • Ensuring that risk assessments are carried out to allow prompt identification of potential hazards.
  • Ensuring that corrective action is taken where necessary.
  • Ensuring that machinery and equipment is maintained in safe working order and is used only by
    authorised and competent persons.
